Llynnau Cregennen

Located in the south of Snowdonia, close to Dolgellau, Llynnau Cregennen could have almost been designed with photography in mind. There’s a small wooded island in the south area of larger of the two lakes that creates the perfect focal point, while the peaks to the north rise majestically into the sky.
To reach it you need to take the A493 from Dolgellau towards Fairbourne. After about five miles you need to turn onto the small road that rises steeply to the left, signposted to Llynnau Cregennen lakes. This road is very steep, narrow and twisty. There are also a few blind bends, so take great care and watch for oncoming traffic. You also may need to open a gate once you get close to the lakes (and remember to shut it behind you).
Once at the lakes there’s a large car park on your right, from where you can explore the area. The classic view is from almost directly opposite the car park, though. This faces north easterly, so it’s perfect for catching sunrise over the distant mountains to the east.
